Nice video Cardmen, the captured troops at the end reminded me of a good quality video I saw of Hessen at the end of the war. Quite boring footage but some really high quality colour film. Some good footage of the differences in colour between German uniforms from the 3 minute mark, and some vehicle camo as well.

    Hi Morgoth,

Marauder is being balanced in the next patch, you can check the latest changelog 3.1.5b for details.

High altitude bombers like the Marauder and Arado will not be able to be shot down by your AA  for 2 reasons:

1/ Historically lower calibre AA like 20 & 37mm were not able to effectively engage high altitude bombers.

2/ These units are not physical models in game as unfortunately the tools do not allow us to add them.

Hi Sean, yes the PIAT should have some unique abilities but I’m not sure firing at close range over walls is very realistic. The game mechanic would make it look more like lobbing a grenade which is just a bit naff.  Indirect mortar fire might be a nice addition though.

Also I do think PIATS should be the only AT launcher that can fire from buildings due to no backblast though.

Thanks for the suggestion Khokabog, will definitely consider them for Eisiner Wille. I’ll have to do a bit more research into the war crime accusations but there is no doubt they were hard committed fighters.

I think conscripts have it with a regular ap grenade too.

DShK only had a 50 round belt while the Maxim had 250. So I agree it is inferior overall, except for rpm due to the Dushka having to constantly reload.

HMG’s still need work but we have to prioritize so many things at the moment.

Its a good question because this is all very new and so new counter tactics need to be formed.

In my opinion the best way to counter snipers if you do not have one yourself is with the following units, will depend on the situation which is the best choice:

Light vehicles – snipers should light up on the mini map when he/she fires. Rush in with a Sdkfz 222 or a quad halftrack and neutralise them.

Indirect Fire – Mortars now have a fast saturation barrage that could catch the sniper out. Or heavier artillery if you have it.

Spotting: Use recon planes/flares to reveal their position.

Blinding and flanking: Once you know roughly where the sniper is use smoke or the terrain to obscure his vision and then flank with infantry or vehicles. Infiltration units should be excellent counter snipers also, pop out of the nearest building and put him out of his misery!

Hi Shogun, welcome to the forum, glad you are enjoying the mod!

Re the Sturmtiger, thanks for the suggestion but we have plans for this in a new 4th  Wehrmacht doctrine so will be saving it for that.

The large bomb scatter for the Arado is intentional as historically it was a high speed reconnaissance plane that was retro fitted with bombs making it quite ineffective at precision bombing. This is a reflection of the Wunderwaffe doctrine which was the Germans relying on super weapons to turn the tide in their favor. Some designs were spectacular successes, some were complete flops and others were somewhere in the middle like the Arado 234.

However we are looking to add the ability with the Arado to at least choose your angle of attack which should make it a little more useful for the player.

Hi Aydin, yes it looks like you are missing the Wikinger Win Condition Pack that is required to see the exclusive tech trees.

Here is a link to the steam page, just subscribe to it the same as the Tuning pack:

    https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=536957797

Then in game setup make sure you select it from your list of Win Conditions, heres a handy guide:

Then once you are in game you should then be able to access the tech tree, here is what it should look like:

This will make a huge difference to your gameplay experience. All doctrines have a basic tech tree but the best ones to try are the reworked 16 ability non linear tech trees, below is a list of the 5 doctrines that are complete so far:

    US Armor

    US Airborne

    OKW SS Panzer Division- Wunderwaffe

OKW SS Panzer Artillerie Regiment – Verbrannte Erde

    OKW Fallschirmjager Division – Luftwaffe

Let me know if you run into any problems or have any questions, we are happy to help.

    Regards

    Welcome!

While you technically don’t need the other DLC’s to play Wikinger, I would recommend keeping an eye out for when they go on sale as they are a great addition to the game. Also OKW and the US are the first two factions that we are reworking with our new non linear tech tree so definitely worth the purchase imho 🙂

Nice pictures and article, thanks Cardmen.

Max Hansen who you will get to use in the new SS Panzer artillerie doctrine played a large role in fighting during Spring Awakening offensive with the Liebstandarte Division. He received the oakleaves for his Knights Cross here but was also severely wounded.

From what I can find the numbers in red are more historical, while 360 degrees is possible for the Vickers and M2HB the gun crew would all have to rotate together so it wouldn’t be instant.

    Tripod

    HMG34 – 120° – 65-70

    HMG42 – 120° –  65-70

    Vickers – 120°- 360 possible

    M2HB .50cal – 90° – 360 possible

    Wheeled

    DSHK 1938 – 90° – 70

    Maxim 1910 – 90° – 70

Yes indeed, lest we forget the sacrifice of that generation.

Reminds me of a photo series I saw called ‘Ghosts of War”. the author has combined the old and new photos into an amazing composite.

Yes ” SS Panzer Artillerie Regiment ” Verbrannte Erde” will replace the old Scorched Earth when it is finished. We just haven’t converted the doctrine selection panel yet.

Here’s a preview that Mongalong did of the 4 new OKW doctrines:
