A member of the crew of the German U-177 submarine practicing shooting on the open sea, 1942-1944. U-177 would be lost on her 3rd and final patrol in the Atlantic after depth charges from a P4BY sank her. 50 of the crew were lost, 15 survived and were picked up by the USS Omaha.
