Well with US Airborne I was referencing the 82nd Combat Engineers; indeed the No 4 Commandos would need much more balancing since they have many abilities that other docs need a lot of investment for (like Rangers); perhaps a reshuffling of units is needed but as I said, the idea is for CO to have infantry standards that make other infantry docs competitive such as some sort of good back bone infantry with SMG infantry without high ammunition cost.

The US and German weapon packs currently are too expensive and not worth getting as it’s the same ammunition amount that can be used to call in CAS to kill a heavy cat or any number of grenades to flushing of hostiles etc…

In terms of simply making 1st Assault Engineers Battalion, yes it is an easy change that can do a similar job; I’ll leave that to the devs to decide, I personally prefer coming up with more historical fixes while adding in something interesting to the doc.

I agree that making them obsolete with 45 RM Commando isn’t a good choice and that something unique should be added to them; it’s something I’ll need to look more into as I don’t have an answer too currently.

In terms of the tech tree, tbh I wouldn’t mind if the FFI tech tree gets stunted, it makes the doc’s current medium tank (Panzer 4), the vehicle AA defense (German Half-Track AA) and the weapon drop that lets you make post Tier 0 line infantry (PIAT and Bren drop for Engineers) behind a lot of CP which is desperately needed else ware.

Can FFI be made better? I imagine it can but it may need to consume the rest of the doc and become something like USSR Partisan doc; I think a better direction could be focusing on the assault infantry aspect basing it formations like the 1st Special Service Brigade on D-Day and pushes across the Rhine. Especially with a game like COH2 that heavily focuses on front line combat; using that tree space to enhance other doc aspects is something I would prefer.

With the Commando tree being currently good? I would say improvements like Bash of Regardless being timed does help but No 4 Commandos in practice just seem to as overly “squishy” for elites with heavy ammunition cost to make effective.; No 10 Commando unlock is still needed to access for basic units (AT) with out ammunition cost and the weapon packs as I said aren’t worth getting for the price and are CP that could be used to get things CAS up or unlock the only source of Brens.

Other changes you have suggested I heavily agree with such making the CO officer a bit of an assault squad like many other infantry docs have a a cheaper early game source of SMGs and adding in limited Sherman V DDs as the medium etc..

I would still keep it so No 4 comes with Stens rather than needing to buy it in packages since of the weakness of Combined Operations is needing to pay extra for assault troops; other infantry docs (US Airborne or Soviet Infantry Guards) don’t need extra ammunition purchase and instead use low availability, CP and high cost to balance assault troops.

The stuff you stated like limiting No 4 to two squads is something I would rather have to balance it out.

Perhaps a reduction in the amount of AT weapons they can get?
