Recently, I’ve had Wikinger be far more unstable than it used to be. This is the only game that is crashing, so can assume it’s not my hardware?
I’m looking at crash to desktop crashes. Most of the time it gives me a bug splat, but occasionally I get nothing at all. In these cases it is VERY quick, almost like someone alt-tabbed and immediately closed the game.
Occasionally, I also get a “death lag”. Basically my game will be running, but 1 second of in-game time takes 10+ seconds to run. It generally fixes itself, but it can take time to fix. In multiplayer this is deadly as the game continues on the AI/MP side, with my squads stuck. Longest I’ve had this lasts ~1.5 minutes.
Oddly, Wikinger used to be very stable. I recently had to RMA my graphics card, and I swapped in my old AMD card. Game was stable then too. I got my RMA back ~2 weeks ago, and ever since I re-installed my card I have been having these problems.
Finally, I’ve also noticed my game load times are far worse than before. Historically I would load ahead of all my friends while hosting, now I am the slowest. Not painfully so, but I’ve noticed it.
Normally I would say this is the GPU, but other games and even bitcoin mining is stable. I have done a Prime 95 and Memtest over night with no issues. I have also “verified” the cache of my game on steam multiple times.
What do you recommend I do to fix the issues? I’ve had the game crash about every one in two to three games.
My system is as follows (and I have the latest drivers):
Ryzen 1700
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti
16gb RAM G.Skill FlareX
Asus X370 Taichi
Seasonic M12II 620wt PSU
Crucial M4 128gb SSD
Samsung 840 and 960 EVO SSD

Strange that it is only after you reinstalled your card. Maybe drivers?
otherwise it’s probably the nuclear option: uninstall coh2 and delete all mod files then start with a completely fresh install.

I rarely, but did have crashes before. It’s just gone up exponentially since. I thought drivers too and recently got the latest set from nVidia, but crashed twice over a 1.5 hour session.
I’ll try the nuclear option tonight. Thanks MeatShield.

Considering you already had to RMA your card either the new one is also faulty or you did not plug it in good enough, try to unplug, clean it of dust if there is any, and plug in again. If still crashes revert to you old card. If no crash with old card get a refund of the new card and find another shop to buy it. (also you might got frauded and you got the RMA-ed card back)
Btw, I also have that lag sometimes when 1 second in game takes 10 second, basically the framerate drops to 1. But I can’t find out why this happening, it looks totally random, it can happen with AI or PvP on a map that run fine before, now it lags like this, after that its fine again.
My laptop spec:
i74720 2,6GHhz
Gefroce 950m GTX
8Gb ram
Kingston hyperx SSD -

Doing a clean install of the game seemed to help, didn’t have any crashes on my last session. Granted only 1.5 hours. I’m also trying to RMA my PSU as it failed one power test.
