A question for any compstompers out there. What are your thoughts on the AI difficulty in this mod? in particular Hard & Expert.
I personally prefer co-op games over multiplayer and Pvp hence the question above. I’ve recently come back to this mod after a couple years and have been playing it with a mate and my brother. I seem to recall a couple years back absolutely being obliterated by expert AI at times but now find them to be a push over (No I’m not any better at the game). I picked up on this drastic change in AI straight away with V 3.3.4 hotfix (a). While I absolutely love this mod and appreciate the historical details the AI seem a great deal softer compared to the version I played years ago.
Also, does anyone know if allowing the AI to see through fog of war is easy enough to do? eg. editing a line within a file.
Surely that would beef the AI up considerably in difficulty.
Thanks for reading. -

Hi there. About your question about AI modding related to the fog of war. The answer is yes. It is easy to mod the AI allowing it to see in the fog of war.
In wikinger the AI is not allowed to do it.

The A.I should still be a challenge on Hard and Expert. Maybe you chose a community made map with poor path finding? Sometimes they can cause the A.I to get stuck.
Try testing it with a vanilla map

Yep, I’m hoping the above is the case. We’ve been running through a stack of community made maps to try and find decent ones for the AI. So far with my experience the AI more often than not start off alright, have a great mid game period and than tail off towards the last half of a game.
An odd occurrence I’ve found is AI teams stacking up all their units between their HQ’s and the front line as though they’ve stopped working (This is after they’ve had a great start and mid game on the map). I would have assumed if it was a map path error they would do something like this much earlier in the game. Maybe I’m wrong though. Anyway I’ll go back to playing some vanilla maps like you suggest and see if they act the same way.
Cheers MeatShieldNZ.

Try this map on expert and see if you still think the AI is too easy:

AI has changed from when you first played. It has been nerfed because of many complaints of it being too hard. The end-game, however, should be where it becomes more challenging with lots of heavy armor. Granted, the AI is brain dead in how they use the armor….
Unfortunately, the AI is very inconsistent. Like Meatsheild said, it depends a lot on the map.
Join us on Discord if you haven’t already and we can discuss maps, modes that you have discovered that work best for AI. Members there can also potentially suggest maps that work well too.

Road to Cherbourg by Starbuck one of my favorite ones. Also Starbuck have a very good collection of maps to use and all of them are really good vs AI.
Try also these:

Thanks Starbuck & Olhausen.
I’ll give Starbuck’s maps a run and see how we go. I love seeing campaign maps from the first game.
