      Hello there!

      Today I will present You few issues which had bothered me both in Company of Heroes 1 and Company of Heroes 2. Some of these issues are also common in Wikinger mod. I will also present some of the ways which might fix these issues.

       

      MOBILE BASES

      First of all, there is one feature that I have missed in Company of Heroes 2. That feature is mobile bases. This feature was implemented on British Commonwealth in Company of Heroes 1, more precisely, British faction had mobile base. In Company of Heroes 2 the only faction which has mobile base is OKW, however unlike the British mobile base, OKW base is mobile until it’s built. I think it would be nice to have possibility in Wikinger mod to make OKW bases mobile whenever there’s a need and maybe for certain price of resources.

      ABILITY TO DISBAND UNITS AND EMPLACEMENTS

      Another thing that has always irritated me was that there was no ability to disband units both in Company of Heroes 1 and 2 (especially when I used to play as brits in CoH1). It used to be a common issue in the games where I had low limit of popcap and many units that were useful during the early stage of match but useless during the late one. Hopefully, this issue does not appear playing with Wikinger and 999 popcap, because it is hard to reach even 500 popcap. However, some factions (British Commonwealth) have stationary emplacements which has a limit and there cannot be more than 2 or 3 of those emplacements built at the same time. For example, imagine that You are playing as a British faction in a big map and manage to build a defensive line in the middle of this map with machine gun bunkers (only 3 can be built), Bofors AA guns (only 3? can be built, I don’t remember the exact limit), QF 17 pounder AT gun (only 2 can be built) and, of course, forward assembly to get fast reinforcements for your units (only 1 can be built). Then You successfully defend Your positions against the attacking enemy and manage to push forward, however, this time You cannot build any of these emplacements in the new defensive line as You have reached the limit of all these emplacements which are no more useful to You in former defensive line and are needed in new defensive positions. This leaves You either without possibility to get an advantage of these emplacements in the new defensive line or You can destroy Your own emplacements with tanks or AT guns which takes time and it is never pleasant to kill Your own men.

      In such case, it would be nice to have a possibility to disband these emplacements which would make them abandoned (destroyed) and let You build new emplacements. There could be a ‘disband’ ability in the unit ability screen (the on which is on the bottom-right side of the screen). It would also be nice if there was a possibility to disband any unit. This wouldn’t count as a unit loss and would maybe even grant small percentage of unit’s total value (in this case disbandment should only be available when there’s no enemy around).

      In Wikinger you can withdraw infantry units for a return in resources and most emplacements have a self destruct button (though we haven’t added it to all of them yet).

      Does this solve the second half of your post?

      The first half is limited by the lack of models and animations sadly.

      Thank You for the answer

      I think that this self destruct ability should be also added to British emplacements (I haven’t noticed any British emplacement which would have this ability so far), especially for the forward assembly as I have noticed that this is the only emplacement (not including glider) which can provide player with reinforcements out of the base.

        well, this is the crux at the moment.

        So far OKW is fully modded.
        Us is mostly modded, last doctrine is work in progress.

        Brits, Soviets and Wehr are not modded in the new way yet – that is the reason why you do not find the destrcut option for all the desired units.
